Andhra Pradesh is one of the most prosperous and economically robust states in India. However, the prosperity of the state is jeopardized by its enhanced vulnerability to multiple disaster and climate risks. It is vulnerable to cyclones, storm surges and floods. The state risks being battered by cyclones of moderate to severe intensity every two to three years. Since the 1975, the state had faced more than 60 cyclones. To protect the citizens of the state from the ravages of these risks, it is important to undertake resilience building measures.
